About Us

Building Bridges to the Future Foundation (BBF) is a U.S.-registered 501(c)3 charitable organization established in 2005 after founder Sara Henderson witnessed first-hand the devastation in Aceh caused by the 2004 earthquake and tsunami.

BBF helped establish Yayasan Jembatan Masa Depan (JMD), an Indonesian-registered NGO, in order to quickly and effectively channel resources to people in Aceh who were the most vulnerable and hardest to reach. BBF now focuses its efforts on assisting groups in post-disaster and post-conflict areas where communities are working to rebuild their homes, livelihoods, families, and confidence in the future.

The support BBF provides includes professional staff training, livelihoods and education program development, and establishing partnerships with local government agencies, large international organizations, NGOs, and aid agencies from other governments.

Because of the unique nature of each region's needs and the challenges facing local NGOs, BBF works closely with its beneficiary organizations to design custom solutions that ensure long-term sustainability and impact on local communities
